Head Coach - Dennis Franchione

After taking over a dysfunctional, problem riddled Alabama team, first year head coach Dennis Franchione installed a new offense, a new workout program, and a new attitude that helped the Tide post a 7-5 record and an Independance Bowl bid, which resulted in Alabama's first bowl victory since 1996. Four wins in a row to end the season, inlcuding a thrashing of arch rival Auburn at Jordan Hare stadium silenced most of Coach Fran's critics, and at least for awhile proved that he was the right man for the job.

Unfortunately, Coach Fran's greatest challenge lies ahead. The ridiculous penalties handed down by the ncaa will force him to be almost perfect in recruiting, while keeping the juniors and seniors from leaving the team. So far, he has done an outstanding job of both. Not one player has transfered from the team because of the penalties.
